Australian Government Medicare Rebates
The Australian Government provides Medicare rebates for certain relevant diagnostic imaging services. From July 1 2010, any practices that wish to continue to receive Medicare payments will need to be accredited under the Stage II Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme.
All sites must demonstrate compliance against the full suite of Practice Accreditation Standards by June 30, 2012.
This will include:
- Small radiology practices with one or more modalities
- Large multiple modality sites
- Each site within corporate organisations
- Dental sites that offer OPG services
- Ultrasound including cardiac, obstetric and gynaecological
- Nuclear Medicine
- Cardiac angiography
Services listed in the Diagnostic Imaging Services Table of Medicare Benefits Schedule will need to be accredited in order to receive Medicare payments.
Mandatory accreditation has been undertaken in a joint partnership between Diagnostic Imaging representative groups and the Government to maintain and improve the quality, accessibility and affordability of these radiology services.
Accreditation will be based on:
The Practice Accreditation Standards - Entry Level Standards and the Full Suite of Practice Accreditation Standards. Please take the time to look over the Standards to determine if you would like Choice Accreditaiton Services to co-ordinate your submission.
There are three approved accreditors for the Stage II scheme:
- National Association of Testing Authorities Australia
- Quality in Practice
- Health and Disability Auditing Australia
CPD points may also be available for Practitioners who do their Full Suite Accreditation - ask us how!
